Ayrton Senna’s Williams FW16 put up for public auction for the first time for half a billion rubles

The car, also driven by Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill, will be sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction in New York

The Williams FW16B-01, associated with Ayrton Senna, will be put up for public auction for the first time after three decades in his family’s ownership. The RM Sotheby’s sale will take place on November 16, 2026, in New York. The car’s estimated value is $4–6 million (322–485 million rubles).

Senna used this chassis during testing in Jerez and in the morning warm-up before the 1994 Brazilian Grand Prix. In the race itself, he drove another car—the FW16-02. Following the Brazilian driver’s death, Williams continued to use the FW16B-01: it was driven by David Coulthard, Nigel Mansell, and Damon Hill.

At the end of the season, the team handed the car over to Senna’s family. This was in fulfillment of a contractual clause: the driver was to receive one of the Williams chassis if the team won the Constructors’ Championship. Following its conversion to the FW16B specification, the car underwent virtually no changes and has been preserved in unrestored condition. Among the surviving components is Senna’s personal racing seat.

The current owner acquired the race car in 2024 through a private transaction brokered by RM Sotheby’s. Now, the car will appear at an open auction for the first time. Its value is driven not only by the competition history of three world champions, but also by its provenance: it is one of the cars Senna used during the final season of his career.
