Clumsy Hippo Without Brakes: Owners Expose the Myth of the Legendary Toyota Land Cruiser 200

The car has enough disadvantages

Toyota Land Cruiser 200 is a legendary SUV that has become a symbol of status, comfort, and reliability. However, it turns out that even this "omnipotent" car has its drawbacks. Owners from various online platforms share their experiences, and the reviews are often far from enthusiastic.

The main complaint about the "two hundred" is its excessive bulkiness and clumsiness. One user described it as a "hippo without brakes." According to him, the car is indeed convenient for a large family: three child seats fit in the back row, and the trunk is so huge that it easily accommodates sleds, a stroller, and inner tubes. But retrieving products that have rolled to the back of the seats can only be done on all fours. On the highway, the car is comfortable, the suspension is soft, but too lulling. Fuel consumption in the city reaches 18 liters, and 235 diesel horsepower does not impress with its dynamics. The stock headlights are weak, the suspension is wobbly, and the multimedia system menu is annoying with its English interface.

Another owner with the nickname bibamotor2012 noted that the car has "handling like jelly" and that the 2009 premium car does not even have xenon headlights. At the same time, he praises the reliability and comfort off-road, especially in rural areas. But for the city, according to him, the Land Cruiser 200 is a complete torment: huge dimensions, difficulty with parking, and weak brakes. A separate trifle, but unpleasant, he called the theft of seat heating knobs and dials from the radio, which are not sold separately.

User k.bogdaonvsky was outraged by the voracity of the SUV: in summer, it consumes up to 20 liters in the city, and even more in winter. At the same time, the engine warms up for a long time, starts sluggishly, and the car nods and sways when braking. According to him, the real consumption does not correspond to the factory data - the difference reaches 70%.

Alexey u. added his list of complaints: uncomfortable seats, weak paintwork, narrow sills, which make it easy to get dirty, mediocre JBL acoustics, weak brakes, and a trunk lid that constantly stains clothes. The owner also noted that the tires on the front axle wear out faster, and the washer nozzles can freeze in winter.

Another car enthusiast, Alexey Gerasimov, noted that outwardly the "two hundred" looks powerful and impressive, but inside it is boring and outdated. The interior is simple, the plastic scratches quickly, the seats are large, but uncomfortable. The suspension is wobbly, the car sways, and the brakes are weak - you need to get used to them.

On the Drive2 platform, the owner with the nickname STASEG summed up philosophically: "To be first, you don't have to be the best." According to him, the Land Cruiser 200 does not stand out in terms of cross-country ability, handling, dynamics, or build quality. It is too heavy, bulky, and does not give a sense of space. At the same time, the trunk is large, but inconvenient - without nets, sockets, and normal lighting. STASEG also noted a number of design flaws: a heavy wooden steering wheel without heating, spongy brakes, rolls in corners, weak headlights, an inconvenient filler neck, flimsy fog lights, and a horn "like a subcompact car." Separately, he emphasized that despite the reputation of an indestructible SUV, the Land Cruiser 200 also breaks down: the steering rack, generator, parking sensors, and automatic transmission fail. At a mileage of 185 thousand kilometers, typical age-related ailments begin.

As a result, owners agree that the Land Cruiser 200 remains a reliable, but morally outdated and not very convenient car. It is suitable for those who live outside the city, often drive off-road, and appreciate endurance. For everyday city use, especially considering fuel consumption, dimensions, and weak brakes, the "two hundred" looks more like an anachronism than a symbol of practicality.
