Electric vehicle maintenance in Russia turned out to be cheaper than hybrids

A study revealed an unexpected gap in the cost of maintaining "green" cars

"Auto.ru Business" in collaboration with Fit Service studied the Russian market of electric vehicles and hybrids, assessing sales, price dynamics, frequency of visits to services, and total maintenance costs.

The result was unexpected: maintaining "electric cars" in Russia is significantly cheaper than hybrids. At the same time, the popularity of both segments continues to grow, which stimulates interest in technical statistics.

The share of electric vehicles in the Russian car fleet at the end of the first ten months of 2025 rose to 0.8%, adding 0.1 percentage points. Hybrids are growing much faster and now occupy 3.5% of the market - plus 1.6 percentage points. The most popular electric car was the Zeekr 001, which retains its leadership both among new cars (average price 7.18 million rubles) and in the used car market (5.34 million). In addition to it, the most attention was attracted by Xiaomi SU7, Zeekr 7X, Ora 03 and Avatr 11. Tesla Model 3, Porsche Taycan and Nissan Leaf were also noted in the used segment.

The picture is similar for hybrids: the top demand is for LiXiang L7, whose average price for new cars is 7.21 million rubles. Next come Voyah Free, LiXiang L9 and LiXiang L6, and Toyota Camry is popular among affordable models. LiXiang L7 is still the leader in the secondary market, followed by Voyah Free, LiXiang L9, LiXiang L6 and Toyota Prius, which remains one of the cheapest options for "green" transport.

According to Fit Service, for ten months, the owners of the TOP 5 popular hybrids and electric vehicles visited services approximately 5% less often than a year earlier - about 15 thousand visits. The fall is mainly due to older hybrids, while the flow of new cars has increased.

The number of visits for models up to three years old has increased dramatically: LiXiang L9 - by 184%, Voyah Free - by 172%. Among electric cars older than four years, Tesla Model 3 stood out with an increase in visits by 44%. At the same time, Fit Service emphasizes: the growth is not related to problems, but to an increase in the number of cars sold and the expansion of the fleet.

The most noticeable result of the study is the difference in maintenance costs. On average, the maintenance of an electric vehicle or hybrid has increased by 11% per year and reached 7,380 rubles. But cars with internal combustion engines rose much stronger - by 17%, to 11,760 rubles. The average check for electric cars in the TOP 5 amounted to 5,973 rubles, which is 24% more than last year's figures. Hybrids turned out to be significantly more expensive: 8,586 rubles on average, adding 9%.

Nikita Rodionov, Technical Director of Fit Service, explains the difference simply: electric vehicles do not need to replace oil and filters - the list of works is limited to seasonal procedures, fluid updates and suspension maintenance. In addition, most electric cars in the country are relatively new and used more gently - many family owners keep such a car as a second or third.

The most popular service for electric vehicles, as expected, was tire fitting - a surge in visits is recorded every spring. Replacement of front suspension arms and stabilizer struts are also common. For hybrids, the peak of expenses fell on the summer: an active period of trips, long routes and the dacha season led to an increase in the average check. Most often, diagnostics, replacement of filters, fluids and brake pads were performed.

The study shows that electric vehicles have already become more economical to maintain, and as the share of new models increases and the service infrastructure improves, the gap between them and hybrids may only grow.
