BYD's public relations manager, Li Yunfei, emphasized that innovation remains the cornerstone of the Chinese automaker's strategy, despite competitors often replicating the company's technical solutions. According to him, past experience has shown that even if innovations are copied, research should not be stopped, otherwise others will have nothing to repeat.
Li noted that BYD is constantly developing key technologies, including lithium iron phosphate battery systems, plug-in hybrid technologies, and permanent magnet synchronous motors. These areas are formed through long-term research, not short-term responses to market trends.
The company pays special attention to a megawatt fast charging system, which will be introduced in the first half of 2025. Li emphasized that BYD strives for new technological benchmarks, while competitors' leadership often comes with a delay of one to two years. This allows the company to stay ahead in the electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid market.
BYD's founder and chairman, Wang Chuanfu, personally participates in engineering and strategic meetings, analyzing solutions from the perspective of fundamental science. According to Li, Wang uses the principles of physics and chemistry to evaluate battery performance and plan the deployment of a fast charging network, which increases the efficiency of the company's solutions.
The focus on fundamental research is also reflected in patent activity. In December 2025, four BYD patents related to permanent magnet synchronous motors with variable magnetic flux were published. The patents describe methods for dynamically adjusting the magnetic flux to improve efficiency in different operating conditions.
Li emphasized that the company perceives the copying of technologies by competitors as a normal part of competition. BYD views this process as a contribution to the development of the industry, rather than as a threat to the exclusivity of its developments. This confirms the company's strategy: to remain a leader through innovation, not external design.
The comments were made against the backdrop of discussions in the Chinese automotive industry about technological competition. BYD continues to expand research in the field of electric vehicles and hybrids, preparing new reports and developments, striving to maintain leadership in the global market.
