In the Russian market, Chinese cars continue to gain popularity, and the Jetour T1 has become one of the main novelties of recent months. The model attracts attention with its rough shapes, off-road entourage, and an attempt to give the compact crossover the features of a classic SUV. Its main opponent in the test is the Haval H7 — a car that was initially positioned as a combination of crossover versatility and off-road endurance, and which has already gained recognition from buyers.
The younger T1 model inherited the engine and transmission from the older T2, but lost the direct resemblance to the Land Rover Defender. It looks original, although some elements resemble the Haval Dargo. The price of the T1 in the price list ranges from 3.77 to 3.95 million rubles, while the H7 is offered from 3.349 to 3.749 million rubles. Taking into account discounts, the cost of the cars is aligned, and the choice mainly depends on the driver's impressions and preferences.
If the Jetour T1 was conceived as a more "civilian" crossover with increased cross-country ability, then the Haval H7 gives the impression of a brutal and monolithic SUV. The latter has a ground clearance of 200 mm against 190 mm for the T1, and hidden towing eyes and massive bumpers reinforce the feeling of readiness for off-road driving. At the same time, the T1 looks higher, but psychologically you want to go on an adventure on the H7.
The interior of the H7 features a high window line and massive controls that are convenient to use even with gloves. Physical buttons and large knobs create the feeling of an armored car, and built-in Yandex services make multimedia work fast and convenient. In the T1, navigation and music are controlled via CarPlay or Android Auto, while the system response feels slower.
The interior of the Jetour T1 is made lighter and more spacious, with elegant eco-leather and large glass surfaces. The interior looks solid and "urban", and stationary footrests simplify boarding, unlike the H7. The rear rows of both cars offer enough space, but the T1 wins in terms of trunk volume and the organization of underground compartments, while the H7 only has a luggage curtain.
The T1's suspension is more elastic, which improves handling on the track, and the steering in Sport mode adds feedback. The H7 feels heavier and more stable on bad asphalt, although noise from the mirrors, front pillars and tires is felt more strongly. The dynamics in the city are similar for both cars, the difference in power is practically not felt, and both crossovers easily accelerate to 100 km/h.
Electronic assistants work in a limited way: active cruise control, sign recognition and emergency braking work correctly, and the rest of the systems can be safely turned off. The Jetour T1 has an "intrusive" turning assistant and notifications about movement ahead, which can annoy the driver, while the H7 allows you to control the sound signals separately.
In off-road conditions, both crossovers show good cross-country ability. The H7 with a rear differential lock seems more prepared for extreme conditions, but the T1, thanks to the open towing loop and well-thought-out electronics, easily copes with rocky slopes and snowdrifts. Diagonal hanging and snowy climbs are confidently passed by both cars, although the H7 does it a little rougher. From the point of view of everyday use, the T1 is more focused on the city and comfort, and the H7 makes you want to go on adventures.
