Chinese cars in Russia turn out to be significantly more expensive than in China due to high duties, fees, and logistical costs.
According to the "Russian Automotive Dealers" association (ROAD), the price of a new car brought from China consists of only 35% of its cost in the Chinese market, 40% consists of duties and fees, and the rest is delivery and the margin of sellers.
As an example, ROAD cited the Jetta VA3 sedan, which costs about 900 thousand rubles in China, but in Russia its price reaches 2.5 million rubles. Of this amount, approximately 1 million rubles goes to customs duties, recycling fees, VAT, and excise taxes. Delivery costs 350 thousand rubles, and the margin of the dealer and distributor is about 280 thousand rubles.
This pricing structure makes Chinese cars in Russia 1.5-2 times more expensive than in their homeland. Experts note that reducing duties or localizing production could reduce the gap, but such changes are not yet expected.
