Electric charging will become mandatory: new gas stations in Russia will be equipped with charging stations

We are talking about DC charging devices with a power of at least 44 kW

From March 1, 2026, new requirements for gas stations will come into force in Russia: when building new gas stations on roads of all levels — from federal to local — it will be necessary to provide for the possibility of fast charging of electric vehicles. This is stated in the decree signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

According to the document, we are talking about DC charging devices with a power of at least 44 kW. However, this requirement will only apply if the gas station is technologically connected to the power grid. The initiative is related to the growth in the number of electric vehicles in the country: according to the authorities, their fleet has tripled in three years, and today there are over 67 thousand registered "electric cars."

As noted by Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economic Development Mikhail Kaminsky, this innovation should improve the infrastructure and allow electric vehicles to feel more confident outside of cities. Currently, most charging stations are concentrated within megacities, and there are not enough of them on highways. The appearance of powerful charging stations at new gas stations will reduce charging time and increase the mobility of electric vehicle owners on long-distance routes.
