The optimal time to change car tires to winter tires is when the average daily air temperature drops below 7 degrees Celsius, said Sergey Demidov, Vice President of Renaissance Insurance.
According to him, it is worth considering this point and not trying to go by car in case of sudden snowfall or ice.
Statistics clearly demonstrate the consequences of an unsuccessful choice of tire change time. This year, two sudden spring snowfalls in Moscow and St. Petersburg led to a sharp jump in insurance cases.
The second important point is that the change of season requires a transition to a "winter" driving style, which includes smooth and early braking, avoiding sudden maneuvers and increasing distance.
It is collisions with other cars in the fall that make up 24.5% of the total number, while in winter this figure reaches 30.1%.
On the eve of winter, motorists were advised to pay special attention to the technical condition of the car. It is important to check the tires, including the condition of the studs and tread depth, ABS and ESP, the serviceability of the brake system, the operation of lighting — headlights, dimensions and turn signals, the presence of non-freezing fluid in the washer reservoirs, windshield wipers and the battery charge level.
