BYD's Yangwang brand has unveiled the U9 Xtreme, a track version of the electric hypercar previously known as the Yangwang U9 Track Edition. At the Automotive Testing Papenburg proving ground in Germany in September 2025, the car reached a top speed of 496.22 km/h, making it the fastest production car in history. This surpasses the record of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ (490.5 km/h) and the Aspark Owl (438.7 km/h). Production is limited to 30 units for the global market, each with unique customization.
The model also set a lap time at the Nürburgring of 6:59.157, beating the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra (7:04.957) among production electric vehicles. The previous U9 record on the track was 7:17.9 in November 2024.
The hypercar is based on the standard U9 with improved aerodynamics: an enlarged carbon fiber front splitter, a dual-channel hood, a swan-neck rear wing, and a two-layer diffuser for a "ground effect." Dimensions are 4991 × 2029 × 1351 mm, with a wheelbase of 2900 mm. The tires are 20-inch GitiSport e·Gtr2 Pro semi-slicks for speeds up to 500 km/h, and the brakes are titanium calipers with carbon-ceramic discs.
The power plant consists of four Yi Sifang motors on a 1200-volt silicon carbide platform, each with 555 kW (2220 kW total, about 3000 hp), with a power-to-weight ratio of 1217 hp per ton. Torque vectoring adjusts the distribution more than 100 times per second. The chassis with DiSus-X adjusts the suspension in real time for better grip. The battery is an 80 kWh lithium iron phosphate Blade with two-layer cooling, capable of withstanding a 30C discharge at 30 °C.
Inside: a digital panel, a T-shaped console with a vertical screen, carbon fiber and Alcantara trim, and bucket seats.
