German automaker BMW AG will recall 195,000 vehicles in the US and 136,000 in Germany. The reason was problems with the engine starter - they can lead to a fire.
In cars, water can get into the starter while driving and even when it is standing, this can lead to a short circuit or corrosion, which subsequently threatens a fire.
The recall campaign includes BMW 530i models from 2020–2022, BMW Z4 from 2019–2022, BMW 330i from 2019–2021, X3, X4 BMW 430i, BMW 230i 2022, as well as some Toyota Supra 2020–2022 models with German starters.
The company also recommended that customers park their cars outdoors, and not in close proximity to buildings, in order to avoid casualties and damage in the event of a fire. At the same time, the replacement of starters will be carried out free of charge at the expense of the car manufacturer.
