The head of the Human Rights Council (HRC) Valery Fadeev appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia with a request to pay attention to the use of car license plates that do not have the Russian tricolor. According to him, some citizens deliberately make duplicates of state registration plates (license plate) without the tricolor.
Fadeev recalled that 30 years ago such numbers were issued to police officers and special services, but this is long gone.
The GOST of that time remained. In order to stop this practice, it is necessary to simply establish a single standard for license plates and give a deadline to bring them into compliance - say, within a year.
At the same time, we are not talking about banning square-shaped license plates, which are used by owners of American and Japanese cars.
The current GOST from 1993 allows the manufacture of license plates for cars both with the Russian tricolor and without it, but with embossed RUS letters in the region code field. The penalty for violation of GOST is 500 rubles.
