Russians spent a record 410 billion rubles on new cars in September

This is a record in 2025

In September 2025, residents of Russia purchased new cars for 410 billion rubles - this is the maximum figure for the last 11 months. According to a study by Gazprombank Autoleasing and Autostat, costs increased by 4.3% compared to August, but remain 13.6% lower than last year's values.

The previous record was recorded in October 2024, when sales rose sharply due to a change in the recycling fee scale. Experts do not rule out that a new maximum may be set in October this year.

More than half of the funds spent (51.9%) were accounted for by Chinese brands. The share of Russian brands was 15.8%, European brands - 14.2%, Japanese brands - 8.3%, Korean brands - 3%, and American brands - 1.2%. At the same time, spending on cars from China decreased slightly - to 212.6 billion rubles (-2.1%), while spending on cars from other manufacturers increased.

Thus, spending on domestic cars increased by 7.4%, to 64.7 billion rubles, on European cars - by 18.9%, to 58.3 billion, and on Japanese cars - by 10.6%, to 33.9 billion rubles.

SUVs still dominate the market: in September, 87.1 thousand crossovers and SUVs were sold for 324.6 billion rubles, which is 71% of all sales. The second place was taken by sedans and liftbacks - 20.1 thousand cars for 31.2 billion rubles. The remaining classes did not exceed a share of 3%.
