According to the Avtostat agency, 165.7 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia in October 2025, the maximum in the last 12 months. The head of the agency, Sergey Tselikov, explained on the Avtostat Operativka program why the market has risen sharply.
According to him, the effect of a "compressed spring" of deferred demand worked: buyers who had been postponing the purchase for a long time became active due to the upcoming increase in the recycling fee from December 1. In addition, cars began to rise in price, and dealers reduced or completely canceled discounts, which strengthened the principle of "buy now before it gets more expensive".
The growth in sales was also fueled by a decrease in the key rate of the Central Bank - the yield on deposits fell, and people decided to invest in cars, which began to be considered as a more reliable asset.
Tselikov noted that the number of "waiters" in the market has decreased: most realized that waiting for prices to fall is pointless. In October, the share of cars of "global" brands (Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, etc.) also increased - from 7% in the first half of the year to 12%. The expert predicts that buyer activity will continue in November, but the market may decline by the end of the year.
