The most enduring engines in automotive history according to Autocar

Legendary engines that have survived decades and generations of cars

The British magazine Autocar has published a rating of the most durable engines in the history of automotive engineering - those that have been produced for decades without major changes and have managed to survive many generations of cars. Such a "long life" for power plants is rare, because most modern engines are updated every few years.

The rating includes such legends as the Ford Modular V8, which has been produced since 1990 and is still installed on F-series pickups, as well as the Ford Windsor, which appeared back in 1961 and is still produced as spare parts for tuning and restomods. Another "long-liver" is the Ford Kent, which served as the basis for many Lotus and Cosworth sports developments, and the Renault Cléon-Fonte, which was used for more than 40 years in compact models of the French brand.

Other representatives of the list include the Rover V8, Buick V6, AMC Straight Six, Rolls-Royce L-Series and the legendary Chevrolet Small Block, which has been continuously produced since 1955 and is considered the most massive V8 in the world. These engines have not only stood the test of time, but have also left an indelible mark on the history of the automotive industry.
