Xiaomi Auto has patented a new speeding warning system that works differently than traditional solutions. Instead of triggering only when limits are violated, the technology analyzes the situation around the car and issues a warning if the car is moving noticeably faster than the flow - even if the driver formally obeys the rules.
The system receives data from sensors about nearby objects, identifies reference vehicles, and calculates the relative speed difference. When this indicator exceeds a set threshold, the driver receives a signal about a potential hazard. The document emphasizes that emergency situations can also occur at a "legal" speed - for example, near schools, construction sites, tourist areas, or in densely built-up areas where traffic usually moves much slower.
The system determines the sensitivity threshold automatically - depending on the type of road and conditions. On highways, it will be higher, and in busy pedestrian areas, it will be noticeably lower. After analyzing the section and current traffic, the algorithm selects a threshold and activates the warning.
The patent indicates that the system can notify the driver in several ways: a visual signal on the central display or a voice warning via TTS. In both cases, the driver receives real-time feedback, which should reduce the likelihood of a collision associated with a sharp speed exceeding the surrounding traffic.
Xiaomi believes that this approach will improve safety in dense urban areas, where classic speed control systems are not informative enough.
