China Retains World Leadership in Car Exports for Third Consecutive Year

Electric vehicles continue to strengthen the country's position in global markets, while Europe is rapidly increasing demand

China is confidently consolidating its status as the world's largest exporter of cars — a position first held in 2023 and, according to current trends, will continue into next year.

According to Yicai, cited by TASS, Chinese companies shipped nearly five million cars abroad in the first nine months of this year, while the Japanese auto industry managed to export just over three million.

The main driver remains electric vehicles: monthly exports of electric vehicles in 2024 remained at around one hundred thousand, and this year it has roughly doubled. Industry representatives note that demand is growing particularly rapidly in Europe, where about 430 thousand Chinese cars were registered in eight months — plus seventy-odd percent year-on-year.

BYD has already overtaken Suzuki in sales in the region, Chery — Mitsubishi, and the largest Chinese concerns are actively increasing their presence, opening scientific and engineering centers and local factories.
