BYD and CATL supplier prepares to release solid-state batteries for cars

Tinci received eight patents for sulfide solid electrolytes

China's Tinci Materials is strengthening its position in the battery supply chain by securing eight new patents from the national intellectual property office. The developments concern sulfide solid electrolytes, methods for their production, and solutions for all-solid-state systems. These materials are designed to improve the safety, lifespan, and stability of future lithium batteries, as well as enable the creation of platforms with high energy density.

The company is already in the pilot testing phase: kilogram batches have been transferred to battery cell manufacturers for testing, and a medium-capacity pilot line is expected to be operational by mid-2026. The synthesis uses liquid-phase technology based on existing lithium salt production processes, which accelerates the transition from laboratory development to industrial implementation.

Tinci has been a strategic supplier to CATL since 2015 and supplies electrolytes to BYD. The contract between its subsidiary Ningde Kaixin and CATL for 2024-2025 is estimated at over 10 billion yuan and ensures the production of batteries with a capacity of up to 470 GWh. The new patent package strengthens Tinci's position as a key developer of sulfide solid-state materials, which are already undergoing early testing by China's largest battery manufacturers.
