A sensation in the collector car market - a rare 1966 Ford GT40 MkII Lightweight is up for auction. This is a special "lightweight" version of the famous GT40, created for maximum speed and victories on the track. Only a few of these cars were produced, and only three have survived to this day.
The main star of the auction is the XGT-3. It never started races, so it has retained almost everything in its original form: a thin-walled steel chassis, factory suspension and a light aluminum roof, which was a distinctive feature of the Lightweight version. In fact, this is the most authentic MkII in existence today.
For many years, XGT-3 was under the control of Ford itself, and later passed to private collectors. In total, it had four owners, and none of them carried out deep restorations.
For the world of retro cars, this is a real rarity: most cars lose their originality over six decades, but this GT40 has retained it almost completely.
The GT40 is a legend of American motorsport. In the late 1960s, it won Le Mans four times in a row, forever cementing its name in history.
