Honda is without chips again: plant in China will be stopped for three days

Important components are missing

The Sino-Japanese joint venture GAC Honda will temporarily stop car production in China. Production will be suspended from December 29 to 31 due to disruptions in the supply of automotive microchips from Nexperia.

The pause will only affect GAC Honda plants. Honda's second joint venture in China, Dongfeng Honda, will continue to operate as normal.

At the same time, problems with components will also affect Honda itself: the Japanese automaker will stop its own plants on January 5–6, 2026, and from January 7 to 9 will reduce production volumes.

Nexperia manufactures semiconductors that are widely used in electronic systems of modern cars. The company's production facilities are located in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands, after which the chips are sent for assembly to China.

However, restrictions and decisions of European regulators continue to interfere with the restoration of stable supplies.
