Toyota Corolla gets bigger and more powerful: the updated sedan from China risks becoming more expensive for Russians

Sales of the updated Toyota Corolla will start in China in the coming days, and this new product may become less affordable for Russian buyers. According to specialized media, the sedan has noticeably increased in size and equipment, but at the same time has lost the simplest and cheapest power units.

After the update, the Toyota Corolla became 75 mm longer, and the wheelbase increased by 50 mm to 2750 mm, which improved space for rear passengers. Already in the basic versions, the model received an expanded set of second-level active safety systems, a digital instrument panel and a multimedia system with a large central screen.

Key changes occurred in the engine range. The 1.2-liter 116 hp turbo engine and the 1.5-liter 121 hp naturally aspirated engine disappeared from the range. Now the base engine is a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with 171 hp, and the alternative is a hybrid based on a 1.8-liter engine with 137 hp. For Russians, the most logical import option remains the hybrid, since the version with a 2.0-liter engine does not fall under the preferential recycling fee rate, which applies to cars with a capacity of less than 160 hp.
