Apple Wallet may potentially support digital car keys for Tesla electric vehicles in the future. This is indicated by lines of code in the latest version of the Tesla 4.52.0 application, where mentions of Harmony Wallet Key Cards were discovered. This hints at Tesla's preparation to work with digital key systems at the operating platform level.
According to the data found, the first step will be integration with HarmonyOS from Huawei. In terms of capabilities, this solution is similar to Apple Car Key: both technologies use NFC to unlock the car. Currently, Tesla uses Bluetooth for remote access via its proprietary application. It is likely that the new feature is planned to launch specifically for the Chinese market — Tesla traditionally tests many innovations there before a global launch.
Full support for Apple Car Key on iPhone and Apple Watch is expected in the future, as well as similar solutions for Android. This will allow users to control the locking and starting of the car directly through Apple Wallet, without the need to keep the Tesla application running in the background. Additionally, owners will be able to securely transfer digital keys to other users via Messages, Mail, and AirDrop.
