The State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has strengthened measures to combat drunk drivers during the New Year holidays. Additional traffic police units are working on the roads throughout the country, conducting mass checks and preventive raids.
The traffic police emphasize that countering drunk driving remains one of the key tasks, and the risk of such violations traditionally increases during long holidays. That is why inspectors have strengthened control on federal highways, regional roads and in populated areas.
Statistics show positive dynamics. At the end of 11 months of last year, the number of accidents involving drunk drivers decreased by 8%. The number of deaths in such accidents decreased by 15.2%, and the number of injured - by 7.1%.
Despite the improvement in indicators, the State Traffic Inspectorate notes that the problem of drunk driving remains relevant. During the holidays, inspectors urge drivers to refrain from driving after drinking alcohol and remind that such violations remain one of the main causes of serious accidents.
