Toyota has announced the recall of 162,000 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid pickups from the 2024–2025 model years due to a malfunction in the multimedia screen. The problem is related to the disappearing image from the rear-view camera, which may pose a safety hazard, given the vehicle's dimensions.
The recall campaign was announced by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The malfunction affects both gasoline and hybrid versions of the new Toyota Tundra.
As Reuters clarifies, the automaker's statement says that under certain conditions, the central multimedia display may freeze on the image from the rear-view camera or display a black screen. Such system operation may lead to non-compliance with U.S. federal safety standards.
Due to the failure, the driver may lose the correct image when reversing, which is especially critical for large pickups. As part of the campaign, Toyota will conduct an inspection and fix the malfunction.
