The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro crossover showed weak results in a series of Global NCAP crash tests (Africa NCAP division). The car received only two stars for adult passenger protection and three stars for child safety.
Despite the fact that the body performed satisfactorily during the frontal impact, experts identified serious shortcomings in the basic version. During a collision, the dashboard elements pose a threat to the knees of the driver and front passenger.
The side impact test against a pole was not carried out, as this configuration does not have side curtain airbags. Without them, the risk of fatal head injuries is considered critical. In addition, it is impossible to disable the front passenger airbag in the car, which makes installing a child seat in the front potentially dangerous.
Global NCAP CEO Richard Woods criticized Chery's marketing policy. According to him, the use of five-star ratings from Euro NCAP in advertising, where more equipped versions were tested, misleads buyers. Experts emphasize that safety should not be a paid option.
The situation is also relevant for Russia: the tested version is almost identical to the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max sold in the Russian Federation. At the same time, the basic Active configuration also lacks side curtain airbags.
