End of an Era: BMW Ceases Production of 8 Series

Production will end in 2026, the future of the model remains in question

BMW will cease production of the 8 Series models: the last sedans, coupes, and convertibles will be assembled by the end of the month at the plant in Dingolfing. The company is completing the production of the G14/G15/G16 generation. The decision is due to the lack of prospects for the model in the market. Production of all versions — sedan, coupe, and convertible — will be stopped.

Theoretically, the new generation of the BMW 8 Series could switch to the Neue Klasse electric platform instead of the current CLAR. However, the electric vehicle market is not currently showing sufficient demand for such a model.

The reduction in the lineup is due to BMW's strategy to focus on the best-selling cars. In the 8 Series family, the sedan remains the most popular, so it was considered the main candidate for a successor.

At the same time, a possible abandonment of internal combustion engines could be a surprise for customers, as a result of which, in the current conditions, BMW may completely abandon the continuation of the 8 Series.

Earlier, motoram.ru reported that Audi is ceasing production of its iconic five-cylinder engine.
