Toyota to Unrecognizably Change Its Bestseller

The company is preparing a new HiAce with a hybrid powertrain and TNGA platform, with its debut expected in 2026-2027.

Toyota is preparing a new HiAce, which will debut in late 2026 or early 2027 and will for the first time feature a hybrid version and the TNGA platform. The current generation H200 HiAce has been sold in Japan since 2004 and remains one of the most popular commercial vehicles. Despite numerous updates, the model is approaching a generation change. The new model will be the biggest update in the lineup's history.

The design benchmarks are the concepts shown at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. They demonstrate long-wheelbase and high-roof versions, as well as a standard van. The new model will abandon the cab-over configuration but will retain a short hood for convenience in narrow urban conditions. Several body variants are expected, including passenger and camping versions.

According to Japanese sources, the model will use the TNGA platform and will be partially unified with the H300 generation, already sold in other countries. The main technical change will be the transition to a front-engine layout.

A self-charging hybrid will appear in the lineup, replacing some gasoline and diesel versions. A fully electric version was considered earlier, but its launch is now postponed.

A more compact van based on the Daihatsu Kayoibako-K concept, aimed at urban transportation, is also expected.
