Sedans Save Honda: Sales Growth Amid Crossover Decline and Unexpected Accord Success

Hybrids and classic models have revived demand, while the SUV segment loses ground even for key brand models

Honda showed moderate growth in April 2026: sales in the US increased by 1.6% — to 125,571 vehicles. But behind the overall figure lies a trend reversal: demand has shifted from crossovers to sedans.

The main driver was the Honda Accord — sales grew by 42.5% (16,071 units). The Honda Civic also added 6.3% (25,040 units). This is a rare case for the US market, where sedans have long lagged behind SUVs.

The reason is hybrid versions. More than half of Accord and Honda CR-V models are now sold with electrified powertrains. In just one month, Honda sold over 40 thousand hybrids — a direct effect of rising fuel prices.

Against this backdrop, the crossover segment declined by 5.3% (84,103 units). Even key models — Honda Pilot, Honda HR-V, and Honda Passport — went into negative territory. The only exception is the CR-V (+2.9%), which remains the brand's bestseller with a result of 42,677 cars.

The premium division Acura showed an even weaker result: -15.6% (11,834 cars). Acura RDX sales fell by 32.2%, and the Acura TLX practically disappeared from statistics.

Unexpected fact: the niche Honda Prelude is currently selling better than the Subaru BRZ — 1,152 versus 1,086 vehicles since the beginning of the year.

Earlier, motoram.ru reported on a similar situation with Toyota cars.
