Honda Cancels Electric Vehicles and May Be Left Without New Products in the US Until 2027

Losses could reach $10 billion

After abandoning a number of electric vehicles, Honda risks being left without new models in North America until 2027. The company has cut EV programs and canceled several projects, including 0 Saloon, 0 SUV, and the revival of the Acura RSX. This has led to a gap in the product line.

According to analysts, Honda may not introduce fully updated key models in the coming year. The nearest new product will be a new generation of CR-V, scheduled for 2027.

Previously, the company actively invested in electric vehicles and redistributed resources in their favor. However, declining demand and changing market conditions made these projects economically impractical. As a result, the development of gasoline models slowed down, and the current lineup is beginning to become outdated compared to competitors.

Abandoning EVs could cost the company dearly. It is estimated that payments to suppliers for canceled projects could reach $10 billion. Additional pressure is created by price competition. Honda is already increasing discounts on cars in the US to maintain demand.
