Brakes without fluid: Brembo removes hydraulics - what does it change?

The Sensify system relies on brake-by-wire and electric motors instead of traditional circuits

Brembo introduced Sensify – a brake system without hydraulics, fully electronically controlled (brake-by-wire). Such systems have already begun to be installed in series by a “major global automaker” (the name is not disclosed).

Instead of brake fluid pressure, electronic control of actuators on each wheel is used. In modern hybrids and battery-powered models, a significant part of the deceleration is already handled by recuperation – electric motors act as generators. Sensify goes further: the mechanical part is activated by electronic command, without a traditional hydraulic circuit.

Classic friction is used less often – less load on pads and discs. The transition to zonal architecture and software-defined platforms simplifies integration: the system can be implemented both at the platform level and as part of ADAS packages.

Practical significance lies in reduced wear: less work for pads and discs, control precision: faster and more flexible force dosing on each wheel, and integration with ADAS: easier to link braking with assistants and autopilot.
