Chinese Xiaomi, known primarily for its smartphones and consumer electronics, continues to shock the automotive market. The new Xiaomi YU7 GT set a Nürburgring record for production SUVs, surpassing the Audi RS Q8.
The crossover completed the Nordschleife in 7 minutes 34.931 seconds — almost two seconds faster than the previous record held by the Audi RS Q8. For comparison, just a few years ago, such figures were considered unattainable for heavy SUVs weighing over two tons.
The main “weapon” of the YU7 GT is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with 990 hp and an 800-volt architecture. Xiaomi claims acceleration to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds, a top speed of about 300 km/h, and charging from 10 to 80% in approximately 12 minutes.
The record-breaking car received a Track Pack: Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, special Michelin tires, a re-tuned suspension, and an aggressive aerodynamic package with increased downforce. Xiaomi claims that during tests, the car showed an even faster time — around 7:32.
This story is particularly symbolic for the industry. As recently as 2021, Xiaomi did not produce cars at all. Now, the company not only competes with Porsche and Audi but also takes records from them on one of the world's most challenging tracks. And it does so with an SUV, not a highly specialized hypercar.
