Mazda summarized its sales results for May 2026 in the USA, and the outcomes were unexpected even for the company itself. For the first time in a long while, the main brand driver was not the CX-5, but the newer CX-50 crossover. In just one month, Mazda sold 39,066 vehicles, which is 35% more compared to May of last year. This is the brand's best result since July 2025.
The CX-50 crossover was the star of the month. Model sales soared by 107%, reaching 14,897 vehicles. The hybrid version, the CX-50 Hybrid, played a particularly significant role, with May being its most successful month since its launch.
Against this backdrop, the long-standing brand leader, the Mazda CX-5, on the contrary, showed a decline. In May, 7,805 vehicles were sold, which is almost 18% less than last year's result. However, the reason may be temporary: Mazda is preparing a new generation of the CX-5, and such fluctuations in demand often occur before a model change.
Another interesting trend is related to passenger car models. Mazda3 sales increased by 68%, showing the best result since 2021. The Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster also demonstrated an unexpected surge, with demand almost tripling.
These figures are important for the market for several reasons. Firstly, buyers are increasingly choosing hybrid versions of crossovers. Secondly, the success of the CX-50 shows that Mazda has managed to create a full-fledged alternative to the CX-5, although until recently many considered the new model only an addition to the main lineup.
