Subaru introduced the updated Levorg Layback S:HEV – a hybrid version of one of the most unusual cars in its lineup. The main detail that immediately catches the eye of brand fans is the disappearance of the signature hood scoop. Along with it, the model received a new front end inspired by the Impreza and an electrified powertrain.
The Levorg Layback is a raised wagon with increased ground clearance, occupying a niche between a traditional wagon and a crossover. In the new version, Subaru used the S:HEV (Strong Hybrid) system, which the company is gradually introducing into its key models. The technology allows for more frequent electric driving and significantly reduces fuel consumption compared to conventional gasoline versions.
The update affected not only the powertrain. The hybrid Layback received new front fenders, hood, and lighting. In addition, the car became 20 mm lower than the standard Layback version, while maintaining a ground clearance of 180 mm. This approach should improve handling without serious detriment to practicality.
Back in spring, a prototype without an air intake sparked rumors about a hybrid version of the Levorg. Now Subaru has officially confirmed this course towards electrification. For the brand, this is an important step, as the company has long remained one of the most conservative manufacturers in terms of transitioning to hybrid technologies.
