Ford introduced the updated Mondeo Hybrid for the Chinese market, focusing not so much on the powertrain as on digital technologies. The main element of the interior was a giant 27-inch 4K resolution screen, which stretched almost from the driver to the front passenger.
The new generation Mondeo is currently produced exclusively in China by the Changan Ford joint venture. After the restyling, the model retained the signature wide display but received updated SYNC+ software, a more powerful hardware platform based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, and a number of improvements in cabin ergonomics.
The screen combines the digital instrument cluster and the multimedia system into a single visual space. At the same time, part of the display can be used by the passenger separately from the driver – for navigation, multimedia, and other functions. Ford first implemented a similar solution on Chinese Evos and Mondeo models, and then began to extend it to other cars in the local lineup.
The hybrid version combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric powertrain and an e-CVT transmission. The manufacturer focuses on reducing fuel consumption without sacrificing the usual range and refueling speed.
Such large displays are still rare even in the premium segment. Against this background, the Chinese Mondeo looks more like a demonstration of the capabilities of Ford's local division than an ordinary family sedan. As a result, the car increasingly resembles a modern digital device, where software becomes no less important than the engine or suspension.
