Exact specifications have not yet been determined. However, the most logical option appears to be a mid-size pickup truck – a direct competitor to the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma. A full-size vehicle would find itself in a much more difficult situation: American manufacturers traditionally dominate this segment.
Volkswagen already has a suitable technical base. The Amarok pickup, which is sold outside the USA, is built on a platform related to the Ford Ranger. Therefore, cooperation between the two companies could be an option for the future American model as well. However, the decision on the project format has not yet been made.
In terms of character, the future Volkswagen will likely differ from the most off-road representatives of the segment. Instead of focusing exclusively on heavy off-road capabilities, the company may prioritize comfort, interior quality, and versatility. This means it's more about a pickup for everyday use, travel, and cargo transport, rather than a direct competitor to extreme versions of the Jeep Gladiator.
