Acura unveiled the NEXERA Vision at Monterey Car Week. The concept is not a prototype of a specific production model – the company used it to showcase the brand's new design direction for the coming years.
The NEXERA's appearance differs significantly from current Acuras. The car has a very low front end, a long hood, a cabin significantly shifted backward, and massive rear pillars. The doors open upwards and outwards in a "butterfly wing" scheme, while active rear spoilers and a diffuser are responsible for aerodynamics.
Special attention is paid to lighting technology. Acura used so-called phantom lighting – lighting elements that are practically invisible when off and become visible when turned on. Another new signature element is the triangular A-Marks at the corners of the body.
The concept received 22-inch center-locking wheels with carbon fiber inserts and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes. The interior is designed as a driver's cockpit: seats are integrated into the floor, a wide digital display is located in front of the driver, and traditional controls have been significantly reduced.
However, Acura did not disclose the technical specifications of the NEXERA. The manufacturer also did not confirm the specific powertrain of the concept itself.
The practical significance of the project is different. The new styling will first appear on the fourth generation RDX, which is expected with a hybrid powertrain. This means that the extreme design of the NEXERA is not just an exhibition fantasy: some of its solutions will gradually transfer to production cars.
