After a four-year hiatus, Stellantis is bringing Jeep back to Chinese production sites. As part of a new partnership with Dongfeng in Wuhan, two new electrified Jeep models will begin production in 2027, intended not only for China but also for overseas markets.

The project involves investments of over 8.2 billion yuan (about 103 billion rubles). Production will be organized at the facilities of the Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile joint venture, and development will be handled by the new Dongfeng Stellantis Automotive Technology structure.
The most notable aspect is the division of roles. Dongfeng is responsible for engineering, including electric platforms and intelligent automotive technologies. Stellantis provides design, the Jeep brand, and a global dealer network.
For Jeep, this is a serious turnaround. The previous Chinese production program ended after sales collapsed: from a peak of approximately 203,000 vehicles in 2017, the figure dropped to about 20,000 in 2022. After this, Stellantis halted local production.
Now, China is needed by Jeep not so much as a sales market, but as a development and production center for electrified models. Moreover, the future D-segment SUV, which will be produced with Dongfeng, is planned to be sold in Europe as well.
