The return of Top Gear was announced by BBC Director of Entertainment, Ed Haward, at the Edinburgh Television Festival. He confirmed that the show would air again but declined to name the premiere date or hosts. According to him, details will follow later.

The main question now is who will take the hosts' seats. British comedian Jimmy Carr is named as one of the most likely candidates. Haward, when asked about him, stated that Carr would be an excellent host but did not discuss the team's composition yet. Former rugby player Joe Marler is also mentioned among other possible participants.

The return became possible after an almost four-year pause. Production of the new season was halted after Freddie Flintoff's serious accident during filming in December 2022. The host sustained severe facial and rib injuries, after which the BBC announced the indefinite suspension of the program's production.

The last Top Gear lineup included Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness, and Chris Harris. Now, the BBC faces not only the task of assembling a new team but also a more complex challenge – to regain the program's former audience after unsuccessful reboots and a long break.

It is not even known what the new format will be. The BBC has not announced the release date, the number of episodes, or the final lineup of hosts. Therefore, talks about a specific premiere in 2027 remain speculative for now.

But the fact of Top Gear's return is already official. After four years of inactivity, the BBC decided to put the automotive show back on air – now with a completely new team.
