An agreement has been reached in Buryatia on the creation of a new truck manufacturing facility. An investment agreement with the BaikalAvtoTrak group of companies was signed on September 2 at the EEF-2026. The investment volume is estimated at approximately 12 billion rubles.
The project envisages the production of trucks with four types of power plants: diesel, compressed and liquefied natural gas, and electric traction. Phased localization of components and cooperation with Russian enterprises, including in the production of electric motors and batteries, is separately declared.
It is noteworthy that the project is already going beyond the long-term plan. According to the authorities of Buryatia, the first two electric vehicles are planned to be assembled in September 2026. The agreement provides for the construction of a full-fledged car factory with two investment stages – 6.5 and 5.5 billion rubles. The enterprise will create 250 jobs, more than 50 of them for engineers and technical specialists.
What specific models will form the basis of production has not yet been officially disclosed. It is only known that the Chinese company "Huanqiu Tonglian" is also a partner in the project. "BaikalAvtoTrak" is associated with the supply of Chinese trucks, including Sitrak and Howo, so the origin of future vehicles seems quite logical, but specific models remain unknown for now.
