The Tesla Model Y L Premium AWD has received its official EPA range rating, and it is higher than the company's initial promises. On 19-inch wheels, the crossover can travel 332 miles (534 km) compared to the previously stated 325 miles. With 20-inch wheels, the figure is 328 miles (528 km) instead of 320.
The result is particularly interesting due to the car's size. The Model Y L is longer and heavier than the standard version, and the interior now features three rows and six seats. Despite this, the extended model surpassed the regular Model Y Premium AWD, which has a rating of 327 miles (526 km) with 19-inch wheels.
The secret is not just the battery. Tesla has redesigned the body's aerodynamics: the rear spoiler is now integrated into the design, and the company estimates its contribution to be approximately 15 miles of additional range. In addition, the Model Y L received three-zone climate control, allowing for more efficient energy consumption for heating and cooling the cabin.
There is another curious detail. The switch from 19-inch to 20-inch wheels reduces the Model Y L's range by only 4 miles. For the regular Model Y, the difference between these sizes reaches 24 miles.
The first deliveries of the Model Y L to customers in the US are expected to begin in September. Official EPA tests have turned the larger and more spacious version not into a compromise on efficiency, but, on the contrary, into the longest-range Model Y on the American market.
