Tesla has significantly expanded the capabilities of its built-in voice assistant, Grok. After the summer 2026 update, it has transformed from a predominantly conversational assistant into an interface for controlling a range of vehicle functions. 

For example, Tesla owners can ask Grok to fold the side mirrors, turn on the wipers, set a specific cabin temperature, open the desired menu, and unlock the glove compartment. Previously, performing such operations required interacting with separate elements of the car's interface.

The assistant's capabilities are not limited to climate control. According to Tesla, Grok can plot routes, add and change destinations, make phone calls via a connected smartphone, search for and play music, and find desired functions in the car's settings menu.

Particularly noteworthy is the ability to control multiple functions with a single request. This means that the driver does not have to utter commands one by one but can describe the desired state of the car with a single phrase. Grok should independently break down the request into individual actions and transmit them to the corresponding vehicle systems.

However, this does not yet imply full vehicle control by artificial intelligence. Grok functions specifically as a voice interface for available features and settings. Tesla itself continues to position it as an assistant that helps manage the car, navigation, multimedia, and individual vehicle parameters.

This feature is not available for all Teslas. For Grok to work, an AMD processor-equipped vehicle, a compatible software version, and a Premium Connectivity or Wi-Fi connection are required. The assistant itself is currently in beta testing.
