Honda's reputation as a manufacturer of durable engines has taken another hit. The company has extended the warranty on the cylinder head gasket for a number of Civic, CR-V, and Accord models with 1.5 Turbo and 2.0 Hybrid engines to 10 years or 150,000 miles. The reason is premature gasket failures that can lead to coolant leaks, overheating, and engine damage. The cost of repairs in some cases exceeds $8,000 (680,000 rubles).
A separate issue is related to the naturally aspirated 3.5 V6 J35. After a recall of approximately 250,000 vehicles, US regulators launched a new investigation covering about 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles. The reason was reports of connecting rod bearing damage and subsequent engine failures.
Now, a similar scale of trouble has emerged for motorcycles. Recalls have been announced for the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP due to increased oil consumption. The cause was pistons and piston rings manufactured with deviations from the norm. If the oil level drops, this can lead to connecting rod mechanism damage. The repair involves engine disassembly at the dealer and an additional seven-year warranty.
It is important to note that these are different engines and independent malfunctions. Therefore, it is not possible to claim a single technical cause. However, for Honda, the problem is becoming a reputational one: several major incidents in a row are forcing buyers to pay closer attention to the reliability of the brand's modern power units.
