Toyota is preparing a major update for the Corolla for the 2028 model year. The new generation will receive a platform designed for several types of powertrains at once. This will allow the gasoline version to be retained while simultaneously expanding the lineup with a hybrid, PHEV, and electric vehicle.
The car's exterior was already previewed by the Corolla concept presented at the 2025 Tokyo Motor Show. A more dynamic silhouette is expected, with a steeply raked windshield and modern lighting technology. At the same time, the five-door body may partially replace the familiar hatchback if the rear part receives an appropriate layout.
The main change is not on the outside. The versatile architecture will allow Toyota to adapt the Corolla to different markets without creating completely different technical platforms. For the buyer, this means a greater choice between ICE, hybrid system, and charging powertrains.
The exact specifications of the batteries, engines, and electric version have not yet been disclosed. Therefore, data on the power, range, and price of the future Corolla remain preliminary. The new Corolla should first appear as a sedan, and sales are expected to start around 2027 as a 2028 model.
