BMW M celebrated an important production milestone: the division's millionth car was assembled at the BMW plant in Munich. The anniversary car was a BMW M3 Competition sedan in the special BMW Individual Fire Orange III color. The car was handed over to BMW M head Franciscus van Meel at an official ceremony.
The BMW M division was founded in 1972, so the millionth car appeared 54 years later. The M3 itself holds special significance for the Munich plant: the first generation of the model was also produced here more than 40 years ago, and the current M3 has been produced at the plant since 2020.
Now the model's history is moving into the electric era. From 2027, the Munich plant will produce only all-electric vehicles. These will include the first electric BMW M3 – a high-performance model based on Neue Klasse technologies. BMW is already calling it the first all-electric M-car of its class.
