General Motors is bringing hybrid powertrains back to its US lineup. GM Vice President of Global Propulsion Systems Mike Anderson confirmed that hybrids are part of the company's plans but did not specify particular models or release dates.

GM has been largely absent from the US hybrid market. Currently, the only hybrid model from the brand in the American market is the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, while mass-market Chevrolet and Cadillac models are predominantly offered in gasoline and electric versions.

Previously, GM CEO Mary Barra spoke about preparing several plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) for the American market. In 2024, the company announced its intention to begin their production in North America starting in 2027. Now, GM confirms a broader hybrid strategy, including both PHEVs and conventional hybrids.

The shift in strategy comes amid growing demand for hybrids in the US. In the second quarter of 2026, their sales increased by 23% year-over-year, reaching 16.3% of the new car market, while the share of electric vehicles was about 5.8%.
