Volkswagen has started pre-sales of the new ID. Polo GTI and unexpectedly changed one of the model's main characteristics. The top speed of the electric hot hatch was increased from the initial 175 to 190 km/h. The company explained the decision by customer feedback.

The powertrain received no changes. The front electric motor develops 226 hp and 290 Nm, and acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h takes 6.8 seconds. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a single-speed reducer, and the standard electronic front differential lock helps to realize traction in corners.

The new figure even allows the electric Polo GTI to surpass the top speed of the first Golf GTI of 1976, which developed 182 km/h. At the same time, the current generation gasoline Polo GTI can accelerate up to 240 km/h, so the electric version remains significantly slower on the autobahn for now.

The standard equipment of the ID. Polo GTI includes adaptive DCC suspension, progressive steering, 19-inch wheels, sports seats, and IQ.LIGHT matrix headlights. The 52 kWh battery provides up to 424 km according to WLTP, and charging from 10 to 80% takes about 24 minutes.
