New Toyota RAV4 completely abandoned gasoline versions and received 150 km on electric power

The sixth generation of the crossover switched exclusively to hybrid powertrains, and the PHEV received an increased battery, all-wheel drive, and fast charging support

Toyota has released the sixth generation RAV4 in Japan, completely transitioning the model to electrified powertrains. The lineup now includes conventional HEV hybrids and plug-in PHEVs, while gasoline versions without an electric component are no longer available.

The main technical change is the new hybrid system. For the PHEV, Toyota increased the capacity of the traction battery, bringing the estimated range without starting the internal combustion engine to 150 km, compared to 95 km in the previous generation. The front inverter received more efficient silicon carbide semiconductors.

The PHEV also supports DC fast charging: Toyota claims an 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes when using a station with a power output of 50 kW or more. The system can also operate in V2H mode, supplying energy from the battery to an external load or home power system.

Another important feature of the new RAV4 is the Arene software platform. This is the first application of Toyota's system in a production car. It is used for developing and managing the car's software functions, including safety and multimedia systems, with the possibility of further software updates.
