The reservation agreement for the new Tesla Roadster states that the car is still under development. Therefore, the manufacturer cannot guarantee when the car will be delivered to the customer or if delivery will happen at all. This was noted by The Drive after the sports car's presentation on October 15, 2026.
The reservation payment amount depends on the version. For the Performance version, it is 50 thousand dollars (4.2 million rubles), and for the Thrust version with additional gas engines, it is 250 thousand dollars (21 million rubles). However, making a payment does not mean that the buyer receives a confirmed spot in the production schedule: the agreement only provides for an approximate position in the queue if production begins.
Tesla also warns that the final cost has not yet been determined. The company continues to work on configurations, features, and equipment, so the stated price may change by the time the order is placed. Before concluding a final purchase agreement, the reservation can be canceled, and the reservation payment should be fully refunded.
The history of the previous Roadster shows why these caveats are important. Tesla introduced it in 2017 and initially expected to begin deliveries in 2020. However, the project was repeatedly delayed and never reached mass production.
Now the company names 2028 as a guideline for the start of production of the updated sports car. At the presentation, Tesla announced acceleration to 60 mph (approximately 97 km/h) in less than a second and showed demonstration maneuvers using gas engines. But these promises do not override the reservation terms: before production begins, specifications, equipment, and timelines may still change.
