Tesla has abandoned the name Full Self-Driving for its advanced driver assistance system in the European market. It is now called Tesla Assisted Driving. The change followed negotiations with the German Ministry of Transport, which considered the previous designation misleading.

The name Full Self-Driving can be translated as “fully autonomous driving.” However, the system does not take on all vehicle control tasks: it helps with turning, accelerating, braking, and maneuvering, but requires constant human attention. The driver remains responsible for safe driving and must be ready to intervene immediately.

According to the German Ministry of Transport, Tesla itself proposed the new name during negotiations in September 2026. The parties also agreed that the system could exceed the set speed limit by no more than 10%. Germany intends to support further consideration of the technology's approval at the EU level.

The renaming has already appeared on European Tesla websites, including in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovakia. The company's American website continues to use the name Full Self-Driving (Supervised), meaning “fully autonomous driving under driver supervision.”

Currently, the system is not permitted in all European countries. The vote on its pan-European approval has been postponed from October to at least December 2026: individual countries continue to test the technology. The name change itself does not mean that the car has received permission to drive without constant driver supervision.
