What the all-new 2026 Toyota RAV4 offers

Now it's a real SUV, the way it always should have been

The sixth generation of the Toyota RAV4 marks not just a restyling, but a complete rethinking of the model. For the first time in history, the crossover received a hybrid system by default and became noticeably closer in spirit to the 4Runner, which it now frankly resembles. The new RAV4 looks solid, powerful and impressive, but at the same time remains a comfortable urban SUV with excellent handling and fuel efficiency.

Design and dimensions

The appearance of the new product is inspired by the 4Runner — square shapes, a massive radiator grille and clear body lines create the image of a mature SUV. Depending on the version, the RAV4 can be “urban” (SE, XSE, Limited), “off-road” (Woodland) or sporty (GR Sport, a review of which we published). The Woodland Edition stands out in particular — with a protective body kit, 18-inch wheels, high- проходимости tires and a roof rack.

In terms of dimensions, the RAV4 is almost equal to the first Highlander: length 4.60 m, width 1.85 m, wheelbase 2.69 m. The car has become more spacious and solid — now it is perceived as a full-fledged SUV, and not just a “crossover”.

Interior and equipment

The interior is made in the spirit of the 4Runner: straight lines, large buttons and physical switches. The finishing materials are still not premium, but the build quality is impeccable. Inside there is a practical, “off-road” minimalism.

Multimedia is represented by the latest Toyota system on screens with a diagonal of 10.5 or 12.9 inches. The interface is modern, responsive and logical. The digital instrument panel is fully customizable, and the center armrest has a unique design with a folding lid that turns into a small table — a trifle, but very convenient.

There is plenty of space in the second row even for tall passengers — the RAV4 is now confidently pulling as a family car. The trunk volume is from 1070 to 2000 liters with the seats folded down (depending on the version).

Technology and hybrid system

All RAV4 versions are now hybrid. The basic version is equipped with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor. Power — 226 hp (front-wheel drive) and 236 hp (in the AWD version). The Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in the GR Sport version produces 324 hp and provides a power reserve on electric traction of up to 84 km — 23% more than the previous RAV4 Prime.

The average fuel consumption is impressive: 5.3 l/100 km for FWD and about 5.7 l/100 km for AWD. However, all versions are equipped with a stepless e-CVT, which, although it works smoothly, lacks emotionality and “bites off” part of the driving pleasure.

On the road and off it The RAV4 2026 is pleasantly surprising with its balance. The suspension works out irregularities softly, but without swaying, and sound insulation is improved. Steering is light, but precise — it's more of a comfortable SUV than a driver's one.

The car does not give up off the asphalt either. The Woodland version with all-wheel drive, locking and descent assist system confidently copes with dirt roads and light off-road conditions. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes about 8 seconds for the hybrid and about 6.5 seconds for the PHEV version.

Competitors and positioning

The main competitors are Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-50, Hyundai Tucson, Ford Bronco Sport and VW Tiguan. Toyota takes the upper hand over them with its versatility: the RAV4 has more versions, better hybrid efficiency and time-tested reliability.

Mazda wins in terms of drive, Tucson — in terms of warranty, and CR-V is traditionally famous for its softness and practicality. But it is Toyota that now offers the perfect balance between comfort, economy and capabilities.
