New FAW-Toyota bZ3 Smart Home Edition Unveiled

This is a sedan with lidar, Momenta 5.0, and a BYD Blade battery

The FAW-Toyota joint venture has introduced the all-electric bZ3 Smart Home Edition sedan in China, marking a significant step in the evolution of the bZ3 family. The new model is available in two versions: the base Joy with a range of 517 km and a price of 109,800 yuan (approximately $15,700 USD), and the top-end Pro with a range of 616 km for 129,800 yuan (approximately $18,600 USD).

The car can be considered an updated version of the 2024 model, but it now features lidar and an advanced Momenta 5.0 driver assistance system, making it technologically more advanced and safer.

The exterior of the new sedan maintains continuity with the previous version but has received noticeable improvements. The front end is designed in the modern Toyota "hammerhead shark" style with integrated end-to-end headlights, and a lidar is installed on the roof. At the rear, the end-to-end lights retain their overall shape, but the Y-shaped layout has been replaced with a horizontal arrangement, and the hidden door handles remain in place. A new body color, "Dark Green Cloud," is available for buyers, emphasizing the car's premium character.

The main feature is the Momenta 5.0 driver assistance system, which supports over 30 functions, including urban traffic management, highway driving, and parking assistance. The system uses 32 sensors: one lidar, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 11 cameras, as well as a chip with a computing power of 544 TOPS. This provides the car with a level of safety and autonomous assistance close to that of advanced models on the Chinese market.

In terms of size, the FAW-Toyota bZ3 Smart Home Edition remains a mid-size sedan: length - 4725 mm, width - 1835 mm, height - 1475/1480 mm, wheelbase - 2880 mm. Front-wheel drive maintains a simple and efficient powertrain layout, and both versions are equipped with BYD Blade batteries (lithium iron phosphate).

The Joy modification has an electric motor with a power of 135 kW (181 hp) and a 49.9 kWh battery, providing a range of 517 km, while the Pro uses a 180 kW (241 hp) engine and a 65.3 kWh battery with a range of 616 km.

An important advantage is the support for fast DC charging: the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in just 27 minutes. This saves significant time on long trips and increases ease of use for everyday driving.

The car's interior has also undergone changes. The central control screen has been enlarged to 15.6 inches and is now positioned horizontally, improving visibility and the control interface. The instrument panel has a narrow rectangular shape, and the steering wheel remains traditional. In addition, there is interior lighting and a voice assistant with artificial intelligence, which facilitates interaction with the car and controls multimedia and navigation functions.
